Over the last forty years Stephen Kilborn has had the good fortune to support himself solely through his art. He earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree (specializing in painting and ceramics) from Bowling Green State University in 1972. Following his graduation, Stephen moved to New Mexico where he worked in Santa Fe as a furniture maker from 1972 to 1975. In 1975 he made the transition to pottery and painting and in 1978 Stephen moved north from Santa Fe to Pilar. Stephen’s Pilar studio, where he and his assistants have been producing pottery to be sold in over one hundred shops and galleries around the United States, Europe and Japan, has been in constant operation ever since. In 1994 Stephen opened a gallery in Taos where he shows both his pottery and paintings. And in 2004, Stephen acquired a dedicated painting studio in Pilar.

At this time, Stephen divides his days between painting, pottery and teaching painting workshops. He also travels throughout Mexico and Europe where he can get away and concentrate on his painting. Whether working in wood, clay or paint, Stephen has learned from the different unique processes involved in working with each material. He is at a point in his career where he is able to reach collectors exclusively through his Taos gallery, Pilar studio, or website and in so doing he has the freedom to pursue any direction he chooses with his work.

Stephen is honored to have his paintings and pottery displayed and used in the homes and businesses of his thousands of collectors around the world. Over the years he has been included in numerous solo and group shows and exibitions.
