I was too busy in 2009 to keep up with this page or the web site in general. LaVerne and I have had a very difficult year with one or both of our mothers being on hospice care. We are hoping that 2010 will be calmer and I can keep up on the web.

These three still-life paintings were finished at the very end of 2009. They are gouache on paper. 30" x 22" and are priced at $2000 each.

Breakfast with Taos artist Ray Vinella

Taos, New Mexico

May 5, 2009

Ray is an "old school" Taos artist, one of the Taos Six, great teacher.

He has a funny way of tearing up his toast and putting it on his eggs. This was taught to him by his mother years ago.

Arthaus66 opening. Albuquerque, NM

Lena Bartula and Karen Wight both at least part-time residences of San Miguel de Allende in Mexico had an opening at this nice east side gallery.

Lena showed Mexican styled blouses on clothes lines. These were Frida style blouses as art.

Karen showed sculpture and monotypes with some jewelery of hands.

The painting shows my daughter Alice, a law student, front center, dressed in a red Chinese top. She has Lena to her right and Karen on her left. Versace man is on the clothes line in chartreuse jacket with the blouses and Alice's top. The Sandias can be seen in the distance.

 Visit to Sam Scott's Studio

Santa Fe, NM

Sam is a well known artist who has been around Santa Fe since 1969. Even longer than SK. I came in 1972.

Sam has a great studio on the west side and I stopped in to see his new work for a show at the HCG Gallery in Dallas, opening May 25, 2009.

Pictured are two large canvases, six foot square with Sam and Versace guy looking on.

In early March we had a warm spell and all the apricot trees bloomed in Pilar. I made several drawings (see below) before it froze and turned the blooms brown. I only had time for one gouache on paper, 22" x 30" painting. I will revisit this popular subject of mine while in Mexico later this month.

Winter in Pilar.

It has been cold with some snow this winter. This view is above the cemetery looking southwest.

I have been working mostly on pottery since October. I had some ideas that I needed to work out in clay. I like to not go back and forth between pottery and painting. Now I will just do a few more firings and then switch to painting. We leave for Mexico April 22 when I can concentrate on painting.
